Hi I commanded HHB from oct 1977 to feb1980 it was a long command and i made the 04 list right after i gave up command. I remember it as one of the best commands i had and the greatest men i ever worked with. Perry rimmer was my first sergent i havent seen him since. I remember him as the best first sgt i ever had.

I served in the 2/92 battalion communications group from 70 to 71. Came in as a PFC and left as a Sgt. I had forgotten so much-- the pictures brought back a lot of memories. I will look for my old pictures and if they can be scaned will send them in. I remember many trips to Graf. in my commo truck where we would use the safe as a cooler for our "flipies". Thanks for putting this site up.
I guess the Cold War doesn't get as much air as an actual conflict. That's why there is no Wall commemorating the millions who served during the non-shooting parts.
I don't know why, except that no one actually did any shooting, more people don't care to look up their Cold War Army friends.
From 1976 to 1979 I was part time Battalion FO for the mighty eights. I was more often found running the battalion radio net. (FM voice.) Our security encoder was an electromechanical box that we set every day with a device with a bunch of adjustable pins. I don't remember what that was called.
I am the few that was in HHB 2nd Bn 92nd FA from late 1976 to the middle of 1979. I think my Rivers friends must be dead by now, since most of my friends were the old Sgt s.
I noticed that the HHB company commander posted a message. I was in HHB 2/92 during that time. (1976 to 1979) I was in the S3 section. My boss was MSG Nelson. I don't remember many names except some of the enlisted. The last 6 months of my tour, I was the Battalion duty driver. Not really a career move, but I got to meet more people and see more things doing that job than being an FO. I went to almost every outpost with 120 miles of Giessen.
I worked in S3 most of the time and pulled FO sometimes. I ran the Battalion radio net all the time. Funny, we called it the 'Net' back then, never knowing what that would come to mean.
I looked up Giessen on Google Earth and tried to remember all the places I went. After all these years, I still want to visit Giessen. For it is Giessen that I miss more than anything else about Germany or the Army. I sort of came of age in Giessen. I was 17 years old when I first got there.
