I was at Rivers in 82-83. I was a specialist in 2/92nd first, then was transferred over to 3/79th as their Armorer. Had a great friend that was a cook named Tracy Giesick. We've stayed in touch over the years. I lived further off post than anyone. Little town called Beilstein up by Herborn. I go back about every 5 years to visit my German friends there. Rivers barracks the last I saw it which was maybe 7 years ago was surrounded by a chainlink fence. Everything is still there except the mess hall. The laundry closet area is there. The 3/79th missle is gone. The parade field has weeds growing in it. The car lots are in the back of rivers where we all used to run. Got good video of it all. My name is Dunn if anyone remembers please get in touch!

Hey skellyjj I was in B-2-92 and I remember whimp but at that time I was coming near to becoming a short timer there an god he was strange are mess sgt told him in graf to stay clear of something he was cooking and if he touched it he would beat him to death. Needles to say I couldnt help but laugh myself didnt work the mess hall as a cook or what ever I was a 13B in Ammo section for Brovo Battery but Whimp was one person I remember saying with that last name no judge would turn him down for a request to change that name . Having the last name of Whimp is as bad as a female having the last name if hooker way to funny .

I pulled a lot of KP in that messhall (I was always in trouble with my 1st Sgt. (Maldonado, HQ Btry). I also remember that the food was excellent in late '62 and early '63 (I moved around a lot after that and that was not always the case in other messhalls!). -Jan (HQ Btry, 2/92, '62/'63).

Hi Joe Morgan!
It's great to hear from someone who was at Rivers Barracks when I worked there. Sgt. Wimp was definitely the kind of guy you didn't easily forget. hehe!

I remember the mess hall. The food was good if you got into the line that the one with big ears wasn't in charge of otherwise, the bacon was burnt, hashbrowns still hard and it was just pitiful. Otherwise, the chow was pretty good. You had to really watch for the hungover cooks. I remember my first and last time taking the mealcards, I can't remember what that duty was called. Anyhow the Corp Artillery Commander came in, I was newly promoted to Spec 4 and I couldn't remember to call at ease or attention. He asked me what I was supposed to say. Embarassing, I told him that I knew it was either at ease or attention and that I couldn't remember which. He says that if people came to attention they would drop their trays. I think I shriveled up an fell through the cracks in the tile. He says well then. I called at ease, but not loud enough. Pretty soon the mess Sgt comes running over and asks me did I call at ease. I just wanted that duty to hurry up and be over with LOL! The holiday meals were excellent.
