You guys go back farther than I expected. I was in HQ Btry 2/92 from Nov. 1962 to June 1963 when I began being bounced all over Western Germany. Because I could both type and spell, I was popular with staff officers, but I was a mouthy teenager, so I pissed off NCO's (1stSgt. Maldonado and MSgt. Holloway). The snack bar at the end of the parade field had something called the Western Burger (A BLT + cheeseburger) that I absolutely adored. I may go back someday just to see if I can get another! I remember total lack of doorknobs ("L"-shaped handles instead), which is why we found drunken roommates asleep in the hallway. I spoke some German, which made me very popular with locals in the trinkhalle's. Marburg was wonderful, because no Americans were anywhere near. I remember walking to the Depot (?), which was the main base in the town. Soviet Liaison kept trying to penetrate the base. We were warned frequently to watch out for them. Weather sucked, but was quite mild by US standards (I live in Iowa now). -Jan Clute

Waynemac, the place we took the laundry was marburg. I enjoyed the trip there and back also. It got us away from rivers for a little while.

Some really admirable people in the 92nd when I was there, May 60-Jan 63: LTC William C Carter, Capt Jonathan Holman, MSGT Rexford Young, Maldonado, Morgan, Holloway, and Roy Wilcox, Sp4 William (Sandy) Kaplan, and many more lost to my failing memory. Wife and I went back to Giessen 5 yrs ago. Rivers is long shut down and surrounded by a huge “Rivers AutoPlaza.” Glad Sgt Rivers’ name lives on, a real hero. Richard Hardin (former Lt. Civilian since 1963). Sgt Fowler was a character. Think I heard he died at Ft Bliss about 2000. I was mostly in B and HQ btry. Richard Hardin
