First of all, Congradulations on getting this web site going. I was at Rivers from 74-75. I was an Asst. Gunner on a 175 for C Battery, 6th Bn 9th FA, 4th Gun Section. and I have the hearing aides to prove it. It is amazing at how many years have passed. Well we made it. We used to be part of the Acid generation. Now, I guess I better speak for myself, I now belong to the Ant-Acid generation. I remember alot of the little things that happened while I was there. The beer machine down the hallway, pulling CQ and putting the drunks to bed, riding the buffer, pulling guard with a baseball bat, the John Wayne bars that came with the C-rations, the pack of 4 cigarettes that never seemed to be stale and of course the Chicklets. The constant maintaince on the tracks, clean them up to tear them up. Stealing parts from other tracks in other units. Hey, I was orderd! The Brats, beer, booze and yes I must admit the hash. Something I gave up the day I left Germany. And who can ever forget Graff. The Hulk (wind) kicked ass. My gun crew might not been the greatest at following Military guide lines, but we dam sure did are job. Base peice 99% of time. I'd gone anywhere with those guys. Actually, one of them still owes me money.I wonder what the interest would be after 30 years. Just Kidding! Anyone remember the name of the little guest house just out side the gate. I was in there with one of my buddies. There was a table were all the regulars sat (Conrads). I had been in there a bunch of times. Well this time there was this girl sitting at the table with her parents, brothers, uncles, aunts, I am not really sure who they were. Anyway we had this flirting going on back and forth between us. I was twirling the few hairs that made up my moustache and she was mimicking me. I got up to go to the bathroom and she followed. Man, I remember trying my best to get any information out of her. Phone number, to meet me there the next day, anything. She did not speak any English and of course my German was limited to Nix, Nine and Hell No. Long story short, I think the two of us made at least 5 trips to the restroom. On the last one we were making out and the whole dam family that was sitting at that table wound up in there with us. I was of course shown the front door. I think I walked back and forth in front of the place every night for a week, like a love sick schoolboy riding his bike back in front of a girls house, hoping to get a glimpse of her again. It never happened. Eventually I got the nerve up to go back in there and the owner informed me that she was only 16 years old. Hell, I did not know. The girls all looked so grown over there, She was drinking a beer. I was just barely over 18 myself. I guess I would have to say that was my only regret. But in it's own way I find it to be a good memory. But I can't help but wonder!
