Hi I commanded HHB from oct 1977 to feb1980 it was a long command and i made the 04 list right after i gave up command. I remember it as one of the best commands i had and the greatest men i ever worked with. Perry rimmer was my first sergent i havent seen him since. I remember him as the best first sgt i ever had.

I served in the 2/92 battalion communications group from 70 to 71. Came in as a PFC and left as a Sgt. I had forgotten so much-- the pictures brought back a lot of memories. I will look for my old pictures and if they can be scaned will send them in. I remember many trips to Graf. in my commo truck where we would use the safe as a cooler for our "flipies". Thanks for putting this site up.

I guess the Cold War doesn't get as much air as an actual conflict. That's why there is no Wall commemorating the millions who served during the non-shooting parts.
I don't know why, except that no one actually did any shooting, more people don't care to look up their Cold War Army friends.
From 1976 to 1979 I was part time Battalion FO for the mighty eights. I was more often found running the battalion radio net. (FM voice.) Our security encoder was an electromechanical box that we set every day with a device with a bunch of adjustable pins. I don't remember what that was called.
I am the few that was in HHB 2nd Bn 92nd FA from late 1976 to the middle of 1979. I think my Rivers friends must be dead by now, since most of my friends were the old Sgt s.
I noticed that the HHB company commander posted a message. I was in HHB 2/92 during that time. (1976 to 1979) I was in the S3 section. My boss was MSG Nelson. I don't remember many names except some of the enlisted. The last 6 months of my tour, I was the Battalion duty driver. Not really a career move, but I got to meet more people and see more things doing that job than being an FO. I went to almost every outpost with 120 miles of Giessen.
I worked in S3 most of the time and pulled FO sometimes. I ran the Battalion radio net all the time. Funny, we called it the 'Net' back then, never knowing what that would come to mean.
I looked up Giessen on Google Earth and tried to remember all the places I went. After all these years, I still want to visit Giessen. For it is Giessen that I miss more than anything else about Germany or the Army. I sort of came of age in Giessen. I was 17 years old when I first got there.

I was there in '70 & '71. Ran a RTT truck which made Graf a breeze. Ahh, memories of the medics in the ambulance driving around with smoke pouring out of it, kind of like a Cheech & Chong movie.

Man oh man, its soooo cool to find this site!!! I now live at Ft. Hood with my son SSG Joe Hays, who is making his own memories of military service. He is a calvary scout with the 3rd ACR, and a decorated combat veteran of two tours in Iraq. Its so cool to see the closeness and brotherhood he shares with the members of his unit. Thats one of the things I miss about being in the military.I occasionally go to the static museum on post and visit the M110 they have on display and remember all the times had on those pig irons. Pulling power packs on the side of a tank trail in graff, replacing those four fan belts that always crapped out at the worst possible time. not a very nice person deep in snow no less!!! I remember pulling guard duty at the NATO site, and being on the reserve force duty. Ahhhh memories of those days warm my heart now, but sure seemed to suck at the time. I got alot of hard miles on me since then, I got into a bad auto accident back in 2003 and broke my neck in three places, I am now paralyzed from the chest down. My eyes don't work so good, teeth falling out, I got artillery ears that ring all the time, but I have my memories of the good days gone by that keep me smiling. Being here at Ft.Hood and the GI town of Killeen keeps me grounded and I still feel the brotherhood all soldiers share. God bless our soldiers, I'm so proud of all of them

Jim Rachel..... Just saw your message. I sure do remember you, you were wild and crazy (just like the rest of us...lol) You and I both drove a M577A1 track vehicle. I can remember lots of great times Montie & Susie house off base. And who can forget the "Macht Nix Man" or the late night runs for bratwurst and Pom Fritz.

Hello everyone I myself was there from 1979 to 1982 I was in B Battery 2/92 FA remember a lot of stuff that went on inside and out of Rivers Barracks them was some wild times. Thanks to being on the guns and around them after I went to Ammo section where I stayed till it was time to go I beleave I left part of me on those guns. Now if I can find my eardrums and put them back in place I may hear better LOL, as I said there was some wild times lots of good times and a few not so good, but if I had to do it all over again I would gladly. It was nice to find this site and the other one that is out for 2/92FA never was good with names but faces now I could remember easyer. We are all much older now and if we only knew then what we knew now Hmmm would we do it any different who knows we will never get that chance to see. When I left there I went back to Detroit, Michingan and went to work in a Machine shop as a Machinist did that for about 25 years, but sence that time I left Detroit and moved to Tennessee where it is queit and more peacefull. All thou having one of the grandsons with us full time he keeps us busy and sence a injury to my back put me out of work for good so, I get to play around on this PC and play online shooter game called FPS (first person Shooters). You people should try them they are fun lots of it I would suggest you try all the Call of Duty games , Battlefield games , and Medal of Honor games you will play them once and be hooked. If you do try them make sure you biuld up a good gaming rig normal shelf sold PCs from wally world will not be good enough if you need suggestions PM me I can help you out on that issue. I manage a few Servers that I run some of the games for a small group of people some of whom are retired military and Vietnam Vets and some just vets like myself. So check it out and contact me the more the better they say plus we use a voice program call Team Speak aka TS to talk while we play in the evening when we are online relaxing. But old Rivers Barracks maybe no more and are old Unit renamed and spilt up and sent else where but its memories will always be with us and as long as one of us are still kicking its still there one way or the other. Peace my fellow Red Devils
