I was with B-Battery. I came there as the Motor Sgt. Left there as a SP/5. I was assigned there after Viet Nam, Via Fort Knox. I changed my fair share of fan tower belts. I even made them out of the rope from the winterazation kit. Won the Football Pool for the super bowl. I had Dallas to win by 21 points. Dallas won 24 - 3. Miami lost. (1972) Roomed with the Commo Sgt, and then a Silver Star winner with a Maroon Vega. Then SGT "red" Wilhelm. Lt Lingemfelter was the XO, He drove a Mustang II. Lt Pettet was Maintenance Office. I had a soldier named "Scooter". The Commander had a Corvette. I was no "angle". My favorite memory " Roasted Hog ". I have other stuff in storage I will share later. I retired on New Years Eve 1994/95. What year was that Super Storm that had us trapped before Thanksgiving. We road marched back. The Rail head was snowed in. All in all, Giessen was my best assignment. The Mox Nix Man, and Bratwurst stand.

Rich, I think that storm was in 1973 or 74...I remember when it snowed and snowed...I worked near the Bahnhof and the number 2 bus I took home took hours to get me there.
I heard so many stories about the "Macht Nix Man" ( which means in german it doesn't matter)...funny there were times SGT Ortega bought some of that junk he sold at the front gate.
Oh yeah the Bratwurst Stand...right at the bus stop...I always knew when the GIs got paid, they would hang out there eat the Bratwurst, drink their beer...and of course talk to the women that got off the bus. LOL

We made it back for Thanksgiving. It snowed over meter and a half. They reversed every 5th center guided on the M88 to get us out of there. It was wildchicken. It had allot of hills. We came out the back of that post, and got right onto the autobahn. Thank god, no accidents.

Michael S Tunstall Rivers Barracks 1968-1969 Hq 2nd Bn 92nd FA, Medics. Hey Michael I remember you! I was the driver of the Medics 3/4 ton field truck! I spent more time in the field wirh you guys than I did at Rivers Barracks! LOL... I was assigned to C battery every time you guys went into the field! I got a ton of negatives that me and Ed Walker took, but I haven't looked at them in over thirty five years. I got them stashed away in a negative book. Must be more in eighty negitives! I will have to dig them out, and get them to a photo refurbishing place, and have them redone! I probably got some pictures of you, your battery, and some of your buds too! Can't be sure though, been to long ago! You remember how crazy we all were at Rivers Barracks in those days? I took pictures of trees, waterfalls, muskrats, the forest, anything, and everything except Rivers Barracks! LOL, to be twenty again! Those were the days! You remember what they use to call us at Rivers Barracks? "Animals Barracks!" Remember? I was the medic that went out on the call when that big brasses wife was killed in the auto accident on the autobahn, during that one bad winter we had. I got to the scene before any of the others even knew what was going on. Me and Fugal picked up the body and got her back to Pendleton Barracks before Pendleton even got their ambulance out of their front gate! The Top sergeant of Pendleton Barracks dispensary was so impressed with us that he ordered everyone to stop calling Rivers Barracks, Animal Barracks after that! I doubt if anyone ever did! LOL. I know you must remember when the 92nd went knuckle to knuckle with the 8th Armored while at graphenfer? Those guys came through our barracks by night, with bats and clubs, while we were sleeping! You remember? They started knocking us around! They thought that they were dealing with a bunch of wimps! I guess the 92nd taught them a lesson or two uh! You remember when Russia invaded Checksolovakia? We all spent the winter in Graphenfer? That was a trip to remember too! That was one cold winter! Anyway, I will get these negatives redone and see who I have to send the pictures to in order to get them posted. Michael S Tunstall mstunstall@cox.net

Hello Zoo! I was stationed at Rivers Barracks from 1976 to 1979. HHB 2nd 92nd FA. I was in S3 most of the time, and pulled FO at Graf most of the time too! Bn ffe was awsome with the 8's! Remember those weird pointy concrete towers on post? They are called Winkle Towers after their inventor. Being around S3 and S2 I got to go in the one behind HQ. Very strange in there. The seats were like stadium seats with seatbelts. The other concrete structures, which looked like houses, were commo hut for the Germans. We broke into one and went down 2 or 3 levels before we hit water. It is amazing to find this site. I have looked for the 2nd 92nd on and off for years. Regards, Dave

Hello 2/92 FA, My name is Styron Lemons, I was stationed at Rivers from 1971-74. I started for the first 9 mo. as an artillery surveyor for gun placement. After the 10' snows, this Florida boy got to work in S-3 as opps. clerk/Sgt.. Top was MSG Barker. Post Commander was Col. Slater. Has any one heard from any of the guys from then. I did hear from the Wonderer, Jim Monusky. Was pretty cool to get an IM from him yesterday. Nothing like talking to friends you shared good times with at the 2/92.
