I was on Rivers (The Zoo) from 86-89 in FDC in C Btry 2/92 and then we were redesignated as 4/7 FA I think around 1988. It was the stuff of a good life in retrospect, although I drank way too much when I was there. I remember trying to stay warm in the motorpool in the winter and breaking track and all that fun stuff. Railheading to Graf-chop blocks and tie downs. Pizza at Bruno's across the street from Rivers. Swan Lake. I was teaching English in Hungary in 2001 and had the opportunity to revisit Rivers-it was almost surreal. The buildings were pretty much vacant and fenced off. There is a huge automall there now-the main motorpool building is now an Opel dealership. The main PX by Pendleton is run by Canadians and I couln't get on without military ID. I've got pictures, old and new, that I will try to post at some point. Anyone else out there who was on Rivers in the eighties?

My name is Joe Dugan, I was posted with C2/92 FA from 80-82. Loved the Rendezvous, tho I hung out more at the MOT Klub, Hard Rock Haarlem, and the Biersteifel. Remember the wonderful concrete houses at the rear of the Zoo, NBC training?? The legend of the underground motorpool under the parade grounds? The Monastery up on the hill with the best beer? Contact me if you were there then... psychojoe_bfc@yahoo.com

My husband and I were also stationed at River's. He was with the 4/7th as a medic. I was stationed with 2/32nd as a Ratt. Would like to here more about River's. If you were with 4/7th in 88 do you remember a guy who fell out of a stairwell window?

I was in C Btry 2/92 and 4/7 in FDC from 86-89. I don't recall anyone falling out of the window, although I'm sure it could have happened. I remember we used to sometimes go out through a 4th floor window and sit on the tiled roof and drink beer overlooking the mess hall. Does anyone remember Lego Land? We lived in these temp/trailer units while they "remodeled" our main barracks. Remember doing PT on the quad? Sometimes the gravel would stick to your palms. And then there were the early morning runs up to the monastery. I took a nostalgic walk through Giessen in the fall of 2001-all the buildings are still there on Rivers but it is now an automall. What a change. I remember clearly my first day on Rivers back in October of 1986. It was a crisp fall day. Some of the guys took me over to the Rendezvous and introduced me to Licher beer. Three days later I was in the mud in Graff. It was all good in retrospect, although I wasn't so sure at the time. We really did quite a bit of walking around Giessen; in a lot of ways it was nice to not have a car. I remember walking to the PX through the woods and past the soccer stadium (did anyone see Jethro Tull and the other bands there at "Out In The Green" in 1988?). PX guard was always fun in the dead of winter-stomping your feet to coax warmth into the toes. The green VW vans with heat. Anyway, does anyone else have any stories?

I rememberr walking to the PX through the park. Loved to walk to t he PX. I remember walking there one day and some guy looked at me and asked me if I spoke German. I must have looked like one of the German girls around there. I looked at him and said no, I am in the military and said I was stationed at Rivers. I met my husband on Rivers. He was a medic and I came in on sick call with a sprained ankle after twisting in from slipping on the ice. My husband was a medic with 4/7th.

we never had any female soldiers assigned to Rivers Barracks when I was there...would hopefully find someone who was a shutterbug though at that time and may have some good pics of Rivers Barracks...sad when one sits back and remembers their time there and couldn't wait to go home to the states...then think well hell i kinda miss the place....especially since it was home for three years.......hard to believe they decommissioned the 2/92 to become a different unit......we never even got our colors back bummer......

After thinking about it for awhile, I do believe I remember a guy named West. I think he was a gun driver for Section 1.
It's funny how you remember things after all these years.
Does anyone know whatever became of our Chief of Smoke (SFC Roberson)? Or GUnny (SFC Hughes)?
I plan on going back to Giessen in 2009.

Who remembers the 185 Club, the "Stab and Jab" in Graf, "Sweaty Betty", Audie Murphy Church in Graf, PX guard, guarding the middle school in 1986-87, or section evals in Butzbach?

Hey, I remember the Stab/Jab in Graf along with the infamous Sweaty betty. It seems like 100 years ago now. Did you ever go to that little town outside graf to the gasthauses. How about those boar hogs with their little striped pigs. One of our cooks grabbed one and very quickly released him after being run down by it's mama.{they would lure them close with the mre cocoa powder]. I remember getting so wasted and missing a march order in graf one evening, I made up for it with plenty of cp guard duty. How about "money for nothing" at the zoo snack bar. That was the only thing the juke box would play. The best cheese pizzas I've ever had were at the Rendevouz. Man were those some wild times!!!
